How We Started

At eighteen, I joined the Air Force, drawn not only to service but to the unknown waiting

beyond familiar horizons. My first journeys carried me across South Korea, where I

discovered that exploration was not only about landscapes—it was about people,

language, and customs. I still remember being taught how to hand money respectfully to a

shopkeeper, a gesture that revealed entire worlds behind simple symbols. Trains carried

me through the countryside, ferries across archipelagos, and even a helicopter over Cheju

Island—echoes of the plane, train, and ship that now mark the Young Travelers Club®

logo.

Years later, Europe became my classroom. From the Arctic Circle to Morocco, from Moscow

to St. Petersburg, I traveled with my soon-to-be wife, learning that discovery is richer when

shared. Ferries and trains became my companions again, carrying me across borders and

into stories that would stay with me long after my duty ended.

Returning to civilian life, I felt another call—the call of creation. One day, I stumbled upon

vintage travel stickers from the early 1900s. Their mystery and charm spoke to me of an

era when travel was both daring and romantic. I printed them as playful rewards for my

daughters, who delighted in peeling them and placing them proudly on the outside of

painted trunks—just as real travelers once did. Watching them roleplay journeys through

“passport control,” buying souvenirs from “Italy,” and hunting for stickers to mark their

maps melted me.

From those moments grew Young Travelers Club®. What began as stickers and trunks

evolved, through countless iterations, into a brand dedicated to inspiring curiosity,

imagination, and exploration. Today, YTC carries forward the spirit of discovery—inviting

others to join the journey, to see the world not just as places to visit, but as stories to live.
